Journal #6:how does gender stereotypes affect Boys and Girls?

In the past journals we have already discussed gender stereotypes exist anywhere such as commercials, films and so on and gender stereotypes give us huge effect especial for boys and girls. Then you must curious why gender stereotypes have such effect to boys and girls, there are some unbelievable data from this youtube video which I posted. First, according to this video producer argue American teenagers spend 31 hours a week watching TV and 17 hours a week listening to music, moreover, they spend 3 hours a week watching movies and 4 hours a week reading magazines. Obviously, american teenager spend the most of time on media. No doubt, media is powerful message and people learn from media and know what is going on in our society. For example, nowadays people did not like communicate face to face, on the contrary, they'd like to use Facebook to talk on the internet. In fact, sometime media will give boys and girls some wrong messages, for example, young girls are over care their looks and bodies, and girls spend the most of time on make up. Then, boys always think they should not cry and should be strong anytime. On average, 53% of 13 year old girls are unhappy with their bodies and that number increase to 78%by age 17. indeed, boys and girls will become negative, self-disgust, shame and so on.

Journal#5 : Cameron Russell: Looks aren't everything. Believe me, I'm a model.

Today we gonna talking to a enviable profession: model. nowadays countless young girls are dream about being a supermodel, because they think model could travel around of world and wear beautiful clothes everyday. But in fact just like Cameron Russell said that's just half truth. Actually a lot of model feel insecure like Cameron Russell, those beautiful girls have to worry about what they look like today. Cameron Russell emphasis in this TED looks aren't everything and those beautiful and perfect pictures are not real. Moreover, she talk about 53% of 13 years old American young girls unhappy with their bodies and this grow to 78% by the time they are 17 (maine,2011). why so many young girls unhappy with their bodies? The answer is stereotype in advertisement. In this society people define long leg, big eyes etc as beautiful women, and in advertisement those model usually have those perfect characters especially in the model of Victoria secretes. in my opinion, women can also become a boss and fashion editor or America president! so looks aren't everything.

Journal#4 (Gender Stereotyping in Commercials)

In the past few journals we have already talked about gender stereotypes in media and what the meaning of "be a men" and "like a girl". And we realized gender stereotypes still exist everywhere even more and more common. Then today i gonna discuss the Gender stereotypes in commercials. as we know commercial is the part of our life and we can watch commercials anytime anywhere. No doubt commercial are constantly exerting subtle influence to us. For example, Dr Pepper's advertisement is a classic example. " it's not for women" is clearly print on package. Obviously, it is totally unfair for women and exist gender stereotypes. Furthermore, there are some words on package, it said a lady-free zone of rugged, macho, hair-on-your-chest awesomeness that's definitely not for women. In my opinion, this commercial give people wrong message and lead woman and men what should drink.
Then, this video illustrates a lot of commercial as example to talk about gender stereotypes. just like this video said those commercial is easier to affect children to know about what they need do, so because of gender stereotype in commercials children have wrong realizing from the star.
Finally, i really hope in the future there are not gender stereotypes in commercials, and gender stereotypes are no longer exist in the future.

journal#3 (Effect of Disney's Gender stereotyping )

In previous journals I already talked about what stereotypes is and what means to be a real men. So today I like to talk about the effect of Disney's gender stereotypes. No doubt, Disney's film affect countless youth generation and they create a lot of classic character so deeply into human's mind such as snow white, mulan and so on. the first video I posted which is from YouTube talks about the effect of Disney's gender stereotype, In the beginning, they give us a lot of data about how many young children spend their time on television, the aim of data is to emphasize how huge effect of Disney's film. In my memory, Disney's film always like to crate a beautiful woman who has following hair, big blue eyes and long legs, those beautiful woman always act the character of delicate. And men have to be strong and brave anytime in Disney's movies. Just like this short video's point, young children who love to watch Disney's film would think beauty is good and ugly is bad, moreover, girls will think they need to be protect by men anytime. Obviously, those are totally wrong points, and Disney's film pass the wrong message to young people. On the contrary, Mulan is unique in Disney's film, if there are the messages our children learned like mulan, girls will become confidence, strong. So i really hope Disney can create more films like mulan, and they need to clearly how they affect of children.

Like a girl (9/20/15)

This is my second resources which is also from YouTube and this short video surround one theme what it means to do something "like a girl". In the beginning, people asked some girls to do some actions such as running like girl, throwing like a girl and fighting like girl, and their actions express weak and work-out. Then they asked some young girls to do same actions. On the contrary, their actions are total different.Indeed they express confidence and their actions is very powerful. In the end, they told us like a girl is not a bad thing and girls can be strong and powerful like a man.
In my opinion, this video is talking about gender stereotypes. In class the professor told us a stereotype is a widely held but oversimplified image or idea of particular type of person, place or thing. So in people impression girls always are weak and flabby, they like to cry anytime. but it is not true. In fact girls can be strong like men. Moreover, just like this video said, girls who are between 10-12 years old trying to figure themselves out, so some words such as you running or hitting like a girl will drop their confidence. So, we can be strong like men and it does not matter what they said, because we are girls.

HatchKids Discuss Male Gender Stereotypes

This is my first resource I posted in blog which is from YouTuBe video, and this short film is very interesting and real. In the beginning, let me briefly introduce this short video which talks about male gender stereotypes in the media, and they asked children what meaning of "to be man" is.
Then, there are two reasons to explain why I choose this video. First, in my opinion this short video is extremely real, because this film through children's eyes to tell people about gender stereotypes, and It is easier to accept by people. Second, this video not only discusses male gender stereotypes but also talks about female stereotypes. For example, according to the video, they talk about people always think girls should wear pink clothes and play pink stuffs.
In the end, I extremely agree a opinion from this short film which is gender stereotypes are harmful to people, we should not classify boys and girls in that clearly sometimes, and for parents they need to tell their what really means to be a man or woman.
